New Year... New Releases!

Happy New Year everybody! Hope you all had a fabulous Christmas. Wasn't it over quickly? To welcome in the new year, Movie Mix have a great selection of new releases to beat those winter blues AND you will only have to wait until January 3rd 2008 to rent them.


Pop into store to check out our January sale too! We have slashed prices on CD singles, albums, new DVDs as well as ex-rental stock. There are some bargains to be had on recently released ex-rental DVDs such as Pirates of the Caribbean At World's End and The Bourne Ultimatum.

Primeval Kill

Up the jungle horror-thriller based on the true story of a slightly larger than normal, exceedingly hungry, crocodile. On hearing the tales of a monster croc that has been responsible for over 300 deaths, TV producer Tim Manfrey (Dominic Purcell) and cameraman Steven Johnson (Orlando Jones) are dispatched to Africa to try and capture the beast. However, once they begin to track the animal, it's not long before they realise they've bitten off more than they can chew. Events take a turn for the worse when the group earn the wrath of a local warlord, and the hunters become the hunted.

Shoot 'Em Up

Clive Owen stars in this gritty, over the top action thriller as Mr. Smith, a gun-toting badass with a hair trigger and an unknown past. He's far from a doctor and farther from a parent, but when he unwittingly discovers an innocent woman delivering a baby right in the middle of a gunfight, Smith enters the frey to save her and though the woman expires, he is the one left in care of the orphaned child. He thinks that the killers were after the woman, but soon he realizes that they had a far more unlikely target: the baby. Smith's regular company is a seedy underworld full of unsavory characters, so he takes the child to the closest thing he knows to a mother: a sultry prostitute known as Dairy Queen, played by Monica Bellucci, who specializes in clientele with a mommy fetish. Teamed with his hot but unlikely partner DQ, Smith unloads barrel after barrel to protect the mysterious baby from Mr. Hertz, a ruthless criminal mastermind played by Paul Giamatti. Smith plans to figure out why Hertz and his thugs are after the baby, but if he can't uncover the truth, he'll settle for leaving them all dead in the process.

Wrong Turn 2

Horror sequel set shortly after the events of the original 'Wrong Turn'. A group of six contestants are thrown together for six days in a simulated post-apocalyptic wasteland due to their participation in a reality television show called 'The Ultimate Survivalist: The Apocalypse', hosted and produced by a retired military commander Dale Murphy (Henry Rollins). The the winner will walk away with $100,000. Located in a remote part of West Virginia, the contestants soon discover that what they really are fighting for is their survival against a family of hideously deformed inbred cannibals who plan to ruthlessly butcher them all.

Like Minds

Thriller starring Toni Collette. A forensic psychologist, Sally Rowe (Collette), is appointed by police to determine whether there's enough evidence to lay murder charges against 17-year-old Alex (Eddie Redmayne), accused in the shotgun death of his schoolmate Nigel (Tom Sturridge). With no tangible evidence, the detective on the case is under pressure from Alex's influential father to have the charges dropped. Delving deeply into Alex and Nigel's bizarre symbiotic pact, Rowe discovers that though dead, Nigel's psychological effect on Alex is far from diminished.

Armed with a crossbow and fighting a serious thirst, she sets out determined to get even with the bloodsucking insomniacs who put her in this situation.

New Releases At Movie Mix 26th December 2007

Rush Hour 3

Third installment of the popular action series starring Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan. While in Paris, Chief Inspector Lee's (Chan) latest assignment is to escort and to protect Chinese Ambassador Han (Tzi Ma) as he delivers a major address before the World Criminal Court Summit in Los Angeles. While delivering his announcement, he is shot and nearly killed. Meanwhile, former LAPD Detective James Carter (Tucker), who has recently been demoted to traffic duty, just happens to be listening to the radio when the tragedy occurs. He rushes to the scene to help, but instead interferes with Lee's pursuit of the culprit. To get his status back, Carter teams up with Lee one more time to help track down the assassins. With the trail leading to Paris, both will find themselves in unfamiliar territory.

Knocked Up

Seth Rogen, an unlikely romantic leading man, is perfectly cast as slacker Ben Stone. Ben lives in a frat house-type abode with his buddies (off-screen friends Martin Starr, Jay Baruchel, Jason Segel, and Jonah Hill) and spends his time sort of working on creating a website about naked celebrities. Work isn't a high priority for Ben. Mostly, he’s a loveable oaf who just hangs out with his goofy friends, getting drunk, talking about sex as well as other assorted topics guys in their 20s typically discuss at great length.

Mike Enslin (John Cusack), a horror novelist specialising in exposing paranormal events in houses and graveyards worldwide, decides to add suite 1408 of the notorious Dolphin Hotel to his list of conquests for his latest project, 'Ten Nights in Haunted Hotel Rooms'. Ignoring the warnings of the hotel manager Gerald Olin (Samuel L. Jackson), Enslin checks in, sure of exposing yet another sham. But before too long Mike is forced to accept proof of the afterlife, as he fights to survive until the morning.

2 Days In Paris

Julie Delpy writes, directs and stars in this tenderly comical portrayal of two days in the relationship of a 30-something New York-based couple. French photographer Marion (Delpy) and American interior designer Jack (Adam Goldberg) decide to re-infuse their relationship with romance by taking a holiday in Europe. Their trip to Venice didn't really work out: they both came down with gastroenteritis. They have higher hopes for Paris. But Marion's overbearing non-English speaking parents and flirtatious ex-boyfriends, combined with Jack's obsession with photographing every famous Parisian tombstone and his conviction that French condoms are too small, only add fuel to the fire. Will they be able to salvage their relationship?

New Releases At Movie Mix 12th December 2007

Sherry Baby

Powerful and emotional drama about a young mother's attempts to regain custody of her son. Writer-director Laurie Collyer's feature debut stars Maggie Gyllenhaal as Sherry Swanson, a recovering heroin addict, who after parole from prison is determined to get her life back on track. Sherry's main objective is to re-establish a relationship with her young daughter Alexis (Ryan Simpkins), currently cared for by her brother Bobby (Brad William Henke) and his wife Lynnette (Bridget Barkan), who secretly wants to keep her. As Sherry battles to keep on the straight and narrow, she learns to play by her own rules, all the time aware that one wrong move could send her back to jail.

The Simpsons Movie

Surf's Up
